Our last full day in Brittany, so we headed for the northern coast. Our first stop was the village of Yffiniac, the birthplace of Bernard Hinault, who was the last Frenchman to win the Tour de France.
Our research did not suggest that we would find anything special in Yffiniac honoring the man who was perhaps France's greatest cyclist, so we were thrilled to find the mural and bicycle. Yffiniac was surprisingly a very modern and affluent town, although I don't think it was like this in 1954 when "the Badger" was born.
Continuing our northern journey our next stop was the harbor in Saint-Quay Portrieux. It was low tide when we arrived so there was very little activity, but as you can see sailing is very popular here, and in fact I think this port is the starting point for a transatlantic sailboat race.
The picturesque village of Paimpol was our next stop where we had a delightful lunch at the Créperie des Alizes.

Our last stop for today was the "Pink Granite Coast" of Brittany in Plouomanac'h. This very distinctive type of granite is only found in two other places in the world, China and Corsica.
Our two hour, 200 km drive back to Rennes was an easy one and we made it back in time to enjoy wine and snacks with our wonderful hosts at Castel Jolly, Allain and Marie. We can't say enough how much we enjoyed our stay with the Jollys. They could not have been more welcoming and treated us like long lost friends. Getting to know people from other countries is one of the highlights of travel.

Looked a lot like Acadia! Love the crepe place—me want now!!
ReplyDeleteAnother wonderful day of touring. I'd love to have a piece of that pink granite in my kitchen. Already looking forward to tomorrow's tour!
