Day 16-Joucas and the Abbey at Sénaque

For my last day with my rental bike I repeated my previous route into “San Sat” to pick up a copy of l’Équipe.  Kevin prepared another delicious breakfast for us featuring waffles with apricots, and all his other delicasies:  fresh bead, fresh squeezed OJ, coffee, and a coffee cake.

After breakfast, Paul and Pam repeated our drive into lavender country for Christine and James, and were treated to even clearer skies.  Bill and Rosemary headed to the corkscrew museum in Menerbres, and Joni and I returned my rental bike to Hubert Flechais at Luberon Biking.

The eight of us regrouped for lunch in Joucas, having a fabulous lunch at La Terrace which has incredible views of the Luberon valley and Rousillon.

The Abbey Notre-Dame de Sénanque was founded in 1148 by a dozen of Cistercians monks whose way of life emphasizes manual labour and self-sufficiency. Many abbeys supported themselves through agriculture and brewing ales. Over the centuries education and academic pursuits became more prominent in the life of a Cistercian monastery.
